Hard to see how we’re going to compete this year if those figures are going around

We’ve been in similar territory before and competed..09/10 an example that comes to mind. A competent manager and a well drilled squad should at least have us in the play off mix.

I think I saw someone ask the other day what classes as a marquee signing in L2 - Powell is certainly that.

I wonder why no league one team wanted him.

For all we know they did, but Stockport could have offered more…

I meant more for players that we’re competing for. Obviously not everyone is going for 7k but with those sort of numbers dragging up the average wage offers for the better players this year, I can see us struggling to compete financially for the top targets

From a Crewe fan

‘ I'll be very surprised if Powell lasts the full 3 years at Stockport given his lack of fitness and the fact he just doesn't enjoy the game.

Will get an excellent reception when he comes back here though. Any Crewe fan who boos him is a prized idiot. But I find it enormously sad that arguably one of our greatest ever players seemingly destined for big things back in 2012 is back in League Two before he's even turned 30.

A wasted talent and a career that will now be unfulfilled.’

His record is bloody good, gets a lot of goals for a midfielder too.
If he keeps himself fit he’s the best player in this league by a long way.

Don’t think just being “well drilled” this season will be enough for that. Of course, it’s still League Two, however, the quality looks a level above this time around. It may well transpire that it’s your usual, bog standard fourth division, however, on paper currently, looks like you’ll need a bit more quality than normal to be in and around the top 7.

Just means clubs will be taking points off each other all season long.

7k a week apparently
According to last seasons Stoke accounts he was on £11k a week at Stoke and was after a similar amount this season.

Anywhere near that, or even the £7k mentioned is mental for L2.
