Duk will once again dominate the headlines, have his name sung in the stands, and rightly so, but as the old saying goes, the best form of attack is defence.

Angus MacDonald and Mattie Pollock have been immense since coming into Pittodrie. They have brought the best back out of Liam Scales, by his own admission, to create a solid foundation at the back.

That's the fourth clean sheet in a row for Aberdeen, the first time that has been accomplished in the league since January 2015.

Bloke had his contract torn up, allegedly for reasons that can’t be printed. Absolutely nothing to do with our fans.

Fortunately we have such an open and transp.... oh wait.

There's a long list of things wrong with our football club.

Our support isn't one of them.

A lot of fans didn’t like him because he wasn’t great on the ball, that’s a fact and it’s there in black and white on this forum. That won’t be why he left though…

Either we wanted him off the wage bill or he desperately wanted to go & would have refused to play for us or the Chinese whispers are true.

Either way - it doesn’t matter now.

He wasn't hounded out by fans. Club desperate to offload, hence no transfer fee in an environment where the office stapler would be sold for a profit.

The office stapler actually went for a loss, another fuck up by the club.

As others have said, he didn't leave because of fan abuse.

It's fair to say that people didn't rate him very highly though, and I'm willing to stick by that. It wasn't just on the ball, he made plenty of basic defensive errors and it was notable that when he played next to FBT, FBT was the one who was commanding the defence and taking responsibility for aerial balls. MacDonald was never brilliant for Swindon, and the fact that we've got worse since he's left does not mean that we were particularly good defensively before - just less bad.

Now, he's a guy who's played plenty at a higher level and I can believe that he's recovered some of that form elsewhere - but that doesn't mean he'd have played like that here, particularly if there were off field issues as suggested.

As with plenty of others, the real fuck up was not replacing him.

One petty thing that grinds on me was him and Lindsey in the press conference prior to Harrogate bullishly saying that the goal for the season was promotion and nothing else. Obviously it's not on him alone how that fell apart, but it still rankles.

I heard it would've gone for more had it been encased in jelly

====================

RE: MacDonald, if he left due to being hounded out by fans at matches then the last place you would go is to play in fucking Jockland

Somewhere like Cheltenham or Cambridge would probably be ''easier'' in that respect. But we all know he didn't leave for that reason. In terms of Professional UK footy clubs playing in a professional league, Aberdeen is probably about as far away from Swindon as he could possibly get.

Maybe Inverness, Ross, Elgin or Peter-off-the-top-of-my-head would be a further journey/drive. Discounting Wick as they are a Professional but not in a professionally competitive league. Even if the other four are further, Aberdeen is probably the ''best'' football club available out of the five furthest away Smiley

Conclusion - to go or be sent to one of the furthest clubs away from ours is quite likely a big nod to saying he was needed to be somewhere as far from Swindon as was possible. For what exact reason we probably will never truly/fully know. But it does give some form of ''extradited'' vibes

Due diligence should be an important part of recruitment these days.
No good if a club can't look beyond the pound signs and ends up losing out anyway.
