Any suggestions on what is the best platform to source a used car privately?
Is Facebook Marketplace full of scammers?

Mrs Audrey will be looking for a cheap estate to lug furniture about. Wouldn’t want to pay more than £5k.

Check this site out if you are able to travel a little https://www.cargurus.co.uk/Cars/spt_cheap_estates-Swindon_L1437234Auto Trader, Gumtree & Market place would be the other options but I guess it's pot luck on who the sellers are unless you take somebody who has decent car knowledge.

2nd hand car sales must have gone crazy. Just sold my Skoda Fabia, 2015. Paid £7000 for it 4 years ago, just sold it for €7000.

Its because brand new cars are being delayed being built due to covid, microchip shortages from South Korea and then the shortage of parking sensors from Ukraine over the last 2 years having a knock on effect. It is affecting EVERY car manufacturer in the World bar China. Then added to that is the delivery problems from the docks on import to the dealers because of a lack of lorry drivers. People arent getting new cars very fast so there is naturally a shortage of old cars on the market so the price goes up. I ordered my brand new Vauxhall Grandland Ultimate 13 months ago and had a message this week saying its stuck in Tilbury docks waiting for distribution to Somerset before I can get it, normally you get a brand new car in about 12 weeks from order but its between 12 and 18 months now! At least it will be a 23 plate now and not a 72 plate.

I leased a VW Jetta for 3 years back in 2020 (just before Covid). The value to the dealership to buy it from me was larger than the amount I had to pay off to own it, so I earned $4k by handing it back early!

Ebay is a good place - I bought my car via there. Think there are scammers everywhere.
Just make sure you check the cars history, MOT etc. Do your homework.
If you think it's dodgy, simply walk away.
