As Swindon fans I don’t there is any potential for a decent Round 1 draw.
Like I get the novelty of being drawn away against a non league side because it’s different but something we have an atrocious record in.

Yes we are awful of late in games vs non league oppo but for me a draw away at one of the big L1 sides like Sheff Weds, Derby, Pompey or Ipswich where you are guarenteed a good Town following of 1k+ and a home crowd over 20,000, or an away tie at a non league ground such as Needham Market, Alvechurch, Taunton, Weymouth, Chippenham etc. Even though in recent years we have come unstuck against lower league sides but in the past they have been good encounters usually with Town coming out on top in the majority of games vs non league opposition.

Since I started watching Swindon just under 40 years ago this is our record vs non league opposition, Until 2008 it was very good with only a couple of losses against them.
1975 W H Hendon 1-0 1976 L A Tooting 1-2 1976 W H Hitchin 3-1 1977 W H Boreham Wood 2-0 1977 W H Bromley 7-0 1978 W H Enfield 3-0 1979 W H March Town United 2-0 1980 W H Weymouth 3-2 1981 W H Sutton 2-1 1982 W H Wealdstone 2-0 1983 W A Taunton 3-2 played at the CG after being drawn away 1984 W A Kettering 7-0 1984 L H Dagenham 2-3 1986 W A Farnborough 4-0 1986 W H Enfield 3-0 1996 W H Woking 2-0 1998 L H Stevenage 1-2 2000 W H Gateshead 5-0 2000 W H Ilkeston 4-1 2005 W H Marlow 2-0 2007 W H FGR 3-2 2008 L A Histon 0-1 2009 W H Woking 1-0 2010 L H Crawley 2-3 2012 L A Macclesfield 0-2 2013 L A Macclesfield 0-4 2016 L H Eastleigh 1-3 2017 W A Dartford 5-1 2018 W H York 2-1 2018 L H Woking 0-1 2020 L H Darlington 1-2
21 games preceding Histon had Swindon losing only 2 times against part timers. 31 games in total (not including draws) has Town winning 22 games with 9 defeats. In the last 10 games against non league opposition Town have won a paltry 3 times losing 7.

We played Marlow in 1995, I had to question myself as I was certain Fjortoft scored in that game, he did. Their keeper was unbelievable that day.

A northern team away that we played a few weeks earlier is almost certainly as shit as it could be.

Think we used up all our favourable draw luck between these years by the looks of it! Lovely little run of home draws v non-league opponents.

I remember all of those games, they were great fun, watching non league players trying to boot our players, the gap back then was pretty big too between pros and semi pros. March Town Uniteds owner (a butcher) offered every player a 1lb steak each if they managed to score even 1 goal against us! they didnt and TBH were awful. My favourite 1st round game though was the 7-0 demoltion of Kettering away in 83/84
Even though there was only 2,800 there (1,000+ Swindon) there was some of the worst trouble I have seen at a Town game with my mate Sid Sellars being glassed in the face by Northampton fans.

Didn’t we lose to Tooting & Mitcham after drawing at home? It was a massive shock at the time because we didn’t lose to Non league teams then

Indeed, drew 2-2 at our place then lost 2-1 at theirs.
