Struggling to find somewhere to go for a family meal in Carlisle before the game next week.  New ground for us.  Never been before, so suggestions welcome.  Ideally near Brunton Park...as we're planning to park at the ground.  But happy to try pub food further out if we have to.

Thanks, in advance.

The ground isn't far out of the town centre, very walkable. Don't have any personal recommendations but there's Greek, Turkish, Thai and Italian places all well located. Oh and Nando's if that's your kind of thing.

Rugby club is good for beers, not sure if they do food. Very near ground.

I am sure The Bronx is where I have been drinking the previous two times I have been there.
Sports bar, plenty of room and no more than 10 minutes from Ground. Serve food and no problem with young kids.

Hope to see you next Saturday.

Very welcoming and did do food the last time I went there, pie and mash if I remember correctly although that was a few years ago.

Thanks, all, for the recommendations.

Been a big fan of Tebay for years, and we stop there often.  But no good for us on this occasion as we're driving down to Carlisle, not up.

I'm bringing a Morton fan and a Celtic fan - just for balance.  I'm sure we'll see you there.  We normally do.  : )

Excellent mate.
That bar I referred to would be perfect for your boys.

I once got in a car to go to Carlisle away at about 6:45am, still managed to miss most of the first half due to accidents on the motorway, saw about 60 minutes of football, went for a Toby Carvery and come home.

So I don't think Toby Carvery is too far.

Is driving to Carlisle and back same day doable? Seriously thinking about it.

Assuming you're not sharing the driving and that you're in/near Swindon - I'd say yes, just.  But you'll need to be sensible about it, take proper breaks etc.  Most would book an overnight stay, I'd imagine.

I've been covering 450 miles in a day quite routinely for a number of years, and it's usually fine but the final hour or so can be quite tough.  Return trip from Swindon to Carlisle is another 100 miles on top of that.

Did Barrow due to my train being cancelled.
Carlisle is a decent run to be fair. Stop a few times and ok.

I did it once before for a Tuesday night game. Never again.  Suicide

Still, I got a free hat from Sandy Gray.
