The email sent out from the Trust this morning, in regards to standing for election to the Board. It's ironic something I've been meaning to look into for a while. So when the email landed in my inbox asking for candidates, it seemed like the perfect time to put my hand up. However, I need to get nominated and seconded by existing members... As a newbie to that sort of thing, how does one get nominated/ proposed and seconded by existing members? Any help/ advice would be greatly appreciated!

It helps if you know a few existing members I'd imagine, otherwise I'm sure there are plenty on here (I am for example) who would listen if you gave your pitch!

Sounds like they need a fair few new board members:

We’re committed to diversity and inclusion and would encourage candidates from all backgrounds. In particular, we are looking for someone to manage our Social Media accounts, alongside candidates with the following skills:
- Legal experience
- Project managers
- Accountancy
- Media training
- Marketing/Fundraising experience
- IT experience

I wonder if we can get Ben to do it. That used to be the go to every time there was a vote...

In terms of getting nominated is there a form, otherwise its normally just writing a letter saying you wish to stand and getting two members to sign the bottom of it.

Looks like they don't need planning specialists so I will keep my powder dry!

Well then, here goes nothing!

Some might remember me as the kid that brought the drum to games many years ago... Please forgive my sins. However, my aspiration back then was to support the team with a loud supportive noise. Even nearly two decades on, that has not changed. My passion in recent years, like everyone else, wained and different life priorities took over that saw me attend fewer games than I would have liked to. However, with the renascence of our club by Clem and Rob, my passion this season has been revitalised with a strong desire to get involved with our club like never before. This election is almost perfect timing to get involved and help push forward.

During my absence from the stands, I was learning and gaining experience which I believe could now be an asset to TrustSTFC. Professionally, I work with software development teams, based in the UK and overseas, to deliver software-based solutions. This career path began in Australia where I was working on the Great Barrier Reef as a Scuba Diving Instructor, which led to being a Travel Agent and then the creation of my first business for Tourism Sales and Marketing in New Zealand. This business revealed an even bigger opportunity to launch a new business that translated into securing pre-launch seed funding for a cloud-based reservation system, which went on to capture 40% of our primary target market. Sadly, the second round of funding did not come quick enough and forced the start-up to fail like so many other start-up businesses. However, the skills and experience gained was the foundation for a continuing successful career in Product Management.

With this diverse background of skills, knowledge and expertise, I believe I can add value to TrustSTFC in multiple aspects from IT Management, Social Media, Project Management, Marketing and Fundraising. My colleagues describe me as a forward-thinking evangelist that has the energy and passion to fuel any project forward. I'm curious by nature, so I'm always investigating, questioning, and validating my own knowledge. I'm not shy when it comes to stepping forward when called upon with something I believe in and have passion for.

We've had our fair share of misfortune over the decades. I fundamentally believe this is our opportunity to regrow Swindon Town to its promised potential. If I am unsuccessful in my nomination and election, I'll be there in whatever supportive role I can be (minus the drum!). However, if I am fortunate enough to be successfully nominated and elected to the TrustSTFC Board, I am committed and determined to help aid the rebuild of our club within our local community, recapturing those fans lost during the darker days, and push up the club back up the table to where we belong.

Is the blonde you used to attend games with still a Swindon fan?

Fair play if your drum wasn't the only thing you were smashing that you brought with you to games.
