More messy than Messi today. Not yet playing cleverly enough as a team, but some promising individual performances.
(Clue: poundshop pundit Hockaday called the MoM wrong.)

Simpson. Was tempted to go for Wollacott, but I'm glad to see the big lad finally get a well deserved goal.

For me Conroy as he played well all game but Simpson did well, Payne grew into the game 2nd half too and yet again Wollacott didn't put a foot wrong, even the one he missed wasn't given Smiley .

I wasn't listening to his drivel, who did he call as MotM?

I'll tell you tomorrow. Don't want to be accused of influencing the vote.  Wink

But don't you get the feeling that Hockaday has trouble knowing who's who on the pitch?

TBH I don't think Hockaday would influence anyone with his MotM! I don't think hes a very good judge of anything football related TBH!

Thought that we defended the box well today - especially in the first half. We seemed to have players in the right places (rather than the ball falling to the opposition in acres of space last year). I think that was because of how well Conroy played. However, our passing out of defence and risk taking made me go for Simpson, who I think worked hard off the ball. He showed in those brief moments when he had someone to work with (Williams) that he is a big threat. He took his goal well and also took up great positions to score another, if only people had passed to him.

Wollacott 6
Made one good claim and save in the second half. Watched the ball go into the back of the net and played on! Little else to do all game.

Hunt 7
Didn’t offer much going forward in the second half. Was in a more advanced position in the first half and put in a couple of decent crosses but dropped back in the second and focussed on defensive duties.

Conroy 7.5
Partnered very well with Critchlow and OK with Odimayo. Still thinks he’s Hoddle at times – Trouble is, the person he sprays it to needs to be in the stands!

Critchlow 7
Seemed to ‘mostly’ be in the right place. Beaten for one header that they could have scored with and out of position once towards the end of the second half.

Odimayo 6.5
Defended mostly well. Caught out a couple of times making the wrong decision

Reed 7
Defended well. Slide tackle in first half from shot at edge of the box excellent. Broke up play well

Grant 5
Reed was playing his role. He tried to be creative, but passing was poor. Got dragged out of position. Not a great game.

Payne 6
Buzzed around but couldn’t put his foot on the ball and combine with anyone in any dangerous positions. Most of his touches were in the first half were in our half interacting with Reed and being pressed and tackled. Had a couple of little bursts in the second half.

Gladwin 4
Too slow. Didnt really get into the game. We looked better when he went off.

Simpson 8
Worked very hard off the ball. Took up some great positions. Took his goal very, very well!

KKH 6
Had two or three short runs, but nothing came of them. Defended OK when needed, but not as bright as his initial performances

Subs:
Williams 7
Provided some threat. But then that was sacrificed in order to protect the one goal lead.

Iandolo 5
Didn’t see him create anything going forward. Thought he helped us concede the midfield to them. But, I guess thats what he was told to do.

McKirdy 6
Tried too hard to run around and foul everyone! Would have liked to have seen him earlier to try to run at defenders.

Reed and Conroy did well and Williams with the key moment of class but Simpson is my choice.

Simpson or Williams for injecting the bit of quality for me.

Don’t agree with the Conroy shouts, he lost too much in the air and should have cost a goal when he was caught thinking about his next pass rather than actually dealing with the ball.

He mixed up Odimayo and KKH a few times, for sure.

Fortunately the unflappable Andrew Hawes gets better and better.  He is a great Town fan.  We are very lucky indeed to have his knowledgeable and admirably unbiased commentary.

Oh and Reed for me this week.
