Garner sounds like a sound appointment imo. A young but experienced coach and judging by the recent article posted on this site, it sounds like he knows how to setup a team to be defensively solid. With the supporting statement released by Clem detailing the DOF/Head Coach model, it sounds like we have an actual strategy for once...exciting.

I do think Garner will need time and support given our current squad position and whilst we may start slowly, hopefully we will get better as the season goes on. He almost has a free hit this season, low fan expectations, which gives him time to mould a team and hopefully push for promotion in 22/23.

Isn't a great to finally have a bit of optimisim surrounding the club?!

McGreal was a pragmatic appointment.

Garner is an ideological appointment. The “Coach’s Voice” interview ticks every box and what he wants to achieve won’t happen in Year 1. So it’s on us not to jump on his back if we finish bottom half. It’s about season 22/3, and starting that in League 2 with a much better infrastructure than we have now.

I quite like the head coach / DOF setup

At this level, if the manager does well he generally buggers off and if they do poorly , then sacked. There isn't much in-between and the life span of a manager is short lived. With the DOF there can be a long term strategy and no overhaul of players,etc.. with each new manager appointment.

It would be nice to think that was true but our fans are particularly fickle and I think since the takeover completion their expectations have shot up, no doubt in the belief that Clem is going to splash the cash and go all out for promotion.

All that will lead to in the future is DOFs being pinched rather than managers or maybe clubs will come in and take them as a pair.

I had a slight heart attack when I saw this thread at the top of the page Cheesy

So far, I am so impressed with everything Garner/Chorley, et al are doing.

There's something building and it's very exciting.

It wasn't announced if he was released by Shitty or if we signed him while under contract, if he was a free agent (which I think he was) then they will have no sell on.
