I thought Starmer did a good job yesterday. But he's in a difficult position now. The Oval Office meeting today was a premeditated ambush of Zelenskyy. Starmer needs to pick a side. After today's theatre, it's quite clear that he can't continue trying to face both ways. For the next 47 months at least, we need to decouple from the US. It's a shocking state of affairs, but it's where we are.
Starmer is one of the only European leaders to not have put out a message of support for Ukraine in the last couple of hours. But what can he say 24 hrs after offering a state visit to Trump? I don't envy him.
