I'd imagine being a country that was attacked for centuries would build up some sort on in-balance in the relationship.
a very loose tangent and unrelated to this thread, but On the theme of centuries old decisions influencing people now, I heard a very interesting theory that some academics believe that the anti European sentiment in this country stems from and can be directly traced all the Way back to Henry VIII separating us from the Catholic Church.

Think that says a lot more about academics' attachment to theories than it does about the reality of modern day Europhobes.

Whilst I would not doubt the merits of Worsley or Roberts, don't discount Ramirez or Williams.
Its a strong field.

Its like watching beach football! I had forgotten what an abomination the Arkels was until they extended it forwards.

I think I remember the extension happening. So must have been early 1990s? I agree it looks better now. But it does beg the question, why was the stand built that way to start with? It can't have saved that much money, surely?
Also pleased to see that the innovative 'grass on pitch' idea took off some time after 1977.

I am sure I saw a picture (possible in Matticks book) of the new stand being built behind the previous stand so I wonder whether they did run out of cash and couldn't finish once they removed the original?
