Is it easy to copy them? If so, how?

Copy them to use in the same device because the old one is getting knackered? Or copy them to put in a different device?
I've done it on an old tomtom, but the website I got the 'instructions' seems long gone. There was some fucking about updating bits of the satnav engine to make it compatible with the maps I wanted to use, then there was the crack program needed to make the maps work with my particular unit serial....
Guess it depends on make, age of unit and..well..its a tricky Q to answer.

I was thinking of creating a second SD card to use on a different unit in another car.

I've got a Mazda 3 from 2011 and it has an inbuilt Sat Nav with an SD card.
Long story, but the card stopped working & they wanted nearly £400 to replace it.
They didn't seem to understand the irony of a new Sat Nav costing significantly less

I was quoted £195 from Suzuki. I can see stuff on Ebay for £35-45. I wondered whether it was just a case of buying an SD card, downloading a free program, copying the Suzuki one to the SD card, which would make the whole thing cheaper than £35.

Don't take my word for it but if you have a writeable SD (most are aren't they?) then if the software is available you can just download it onto said storage device. The "program" isn't going to be too complex, after all it's just a bunch of map data that you can get anywhere really. c£200 is ridiculous but many will pay, unfortunately.

Ah, built in satnav. I see. Gawd knows then. Doubt it will just work, but more likely there will be some advice on how to resolve it on t'internet.

Usually the licence is linked to the CID of the card itself so you can't copy the contents onto another card.
There are tools to create a 'gold card' which may work, but I think you have to format the card you're reading from first which means it probably isn't worth the risk of trying as it may not even work.
£35 on ebay isn't too bad.

That was my conclusion too. Many thanks.
