Apparently the bomb squad and police are at an address in Magnolia Court at the moment, the area is cordoned off and roads blocked!

Yeah loads of Swindon suffered heavy bomb damage from where they tried to bomb the GWR works, my mum lost a few school friends in Gorse Hill down Beatrice Street. Gorse Hill, Pinehurst and Rodbourne were worst hit IIRC. |

The house I grew up in in ferndale was rebuilt after being bombed in the war, there are a few other patches of empty land and houses that look out of place in ferndale/gorse hill due to bombing. I don’t know if that was because the railway works were being targeted or bombs were just being dumped, but I’m sure Reg will tell us shortly

Quite a bit, but nothing compared to Plymuff, Bristol and Saturdays opponents. Interestingly the Supermarine factory was built here as a method of scaling down an obvious target in Southampton, so that production had a chance of being maintained in the case of a hit. Which is why there were also sites in Blunsdon and South Marston. The Garrards site in Newcastle Street used to be covered in camouflage paint, which I tended to think wouldn't have been much use in an air raid. |
