Sound system for wedding and home

I am looking to get a sound system for home which I can initially use as background music on the second day of my forthcoming wedding in Poland. Although I say background music I fully expect it to liven up after numerous vodkas to become a sort of DJ replacement. Would anyone have any experience as to whether a single Sonos/Bose type box would prove enough sound for a medium size hall for this purpose, after which I can use it at home?

What might sound big and loud in a lounge or smaller space, sounds very different in a bigger room or hall, especially once you fill it with people.

I wouldn't expect a single box job to kick out enough for a half decent disco (dependent on the size of the room and amount of people), you'll probably need a fair bit more power. It might well be worth getting a box type job hooking it up to some rented powered PA speakers for the wedding. Should have everything you need then.

Agree with WEBBER, there's no way a Sonos/Bose box thing will be loud enough for a room full of people. Hire some small PA speakers and an amp, and that will do the job.

I did hear about some Bose tower speakers that are the nuts, but one box won't do it.

If you've got any form of hifi at home I really recommend getting a chromecast audio for wireless play. For example I have one hooked up to my hifi and I use my phone to select music on spotify which plays on my hifi. It's cheap and simple to integrate and miles better than bluetooth.

Obviously this can extend to a PA system or hifi with enough power to fill a large room (which you may need to hire). The benefit of this is that a chromecast audio is very cheap and versatile. I picked mine up on a deal for £15 but at full price it's £30 which is still well worth the money.

Will be miles cheaper than buying an inadequate all-in-one speaker and I expect and won't be redundant after the event.

Thanks very much for the advice. I think it's safer to hire some specialist equipment. One friend thought the Sonos Play 5 might have enough output to do the job but there is no wifi network to connect it to. I was half hoping I could justify getting a decent sound solution for home on the back of the wedding!

That's a little more expensive than the Sonos but a hell of a lot better. You can make a local WiFi network by just plugging in a router. You can then stream stuff off an ipad/phone without having to worry about Bluetooth dropping in and out constantly.

My wife is a fitness instructor and for her music at classes she uses one of these at £135.

USB and Aux input and it easily fills the halls that she works at in front of up to 100 people just obviously not stereo.
