As far as I can gather this is how we're gonna line-up against Wales... 4-5-1 with Beckham as a holding midfielder.
I'm gonna reserve judgement.
I'm glad that Wright-Phillips finds a place in the team but I think Defoe deserves his chance to partner Rooney.
And Beckham as the deep midfielder??

5 in midfield against the mghty wales, what a joke! Also, if you do play that formation wouldn't you want cole and w-p's pushed further forward and lampard and gerrard in front of becks?

I think becks will get sent off sat, he can't tackle for shit!

Beckham should stay on the right, Carrick in the centre holding.  That would make much more sense.

Agreed with Phil Neville.  How the fuck has he got so many england caps?

I would imagine this would be the case.. the BBC squad selector's attempt at a 4-5-1 isn't very good!

In theory it is not a bad formation as Joe Cole and Shaun Wright-Phillips will be in much the same positions as they play for Chelsea as will Lampard and Gerrard will be used in the same way he would have if he'd signed for Chelsea. Rooney is ideal for the striker role, the problem is Beckham is not really suited for the Makalele role but hopefully he can do a job there, should work ok though.

agree with that, beckham is shit in the centre.

if it were me though i would stay with 4-4-2 and drop beckham for another striker. not a fan of 4-5-1.

i heard on the radio a minute ago it was the players who wanted to play this formation & sven has bowed to the pressure? will go link hunting...

I really think that against world class sides, Gerrard and Lampard will struggle to play in the same side unless they have a holding deep midfielder.  I think this is what Sven is trying to do, but he's picked completely the wrong bloke.

                                           Carrick

        Wright-Phillips     Lampard     Gerrard        J.Cole

                                           Rooney

If Beckham plays in the middle we know its him who runs the team-fucking arrogant twat!He shouldn't even be in the side on his recent(past 12 games) form!

4-5-1 *yawn* why is everyone doing this all of a sudden

What a crap formation...

4-4-2 has worked for years

Looks to me like we are playing 5 in the middle, just so Beckham keeps his place, get him out and Gerrard. Get Carrick to hold and Defoe up front

Robinson

Neville
Ferdinand
Carragher
Cole

Wright-Phillips
Carrick
Lampard
Cole

Defoe
Rooney
