We're looking for a decent value ski resort for next winter - good snow and runs for beginners/intermediates, good value, good apres and not too an arduous transfer/journey. And not Bulgaria!
Anyone got any tips or recommendations? Thinking Livigno at the moment.

I would say Sauze d'Oulx in Italy. Great skiing, great apres - there's a "Blackpool on ice" part of it, but also a nice old town bit. It's Italy so prices and hospitality are good. Contradict with the French "give us your money and fuck off" approach |

I went to Livingo many years ago. It was at the time a duty free valley so cheap as fuck. Skiing was good, but I did have a day off having drunk what we thought was a liquer called 'Alcool' which was in fact just alcohol.
Ah, the joyful stupidity of youth.

I've sung karaoke in Val disere but never skied there.. Two of my sisters always go to Meribel (sp), and have been taking their kids since they were 8, they always say its superb and not mega expensive.

My sister's favourite is Livigno. She's gone about 5 years running and has done a couple of seasons there. Apparently the apres ski is superb and it's cheap. It was also my Dad's resort of choice for a number of years - and he loves drinking too much.

When I lived in Luxembourg, a lot of my friends used to head off for a weekend of skiing. Meribel was also the most popular with them, for the same reasons that SR is suggesting. |

Cervinia - bit ugly - built in 1960s for the Fiat workers, but is in Italy, very, very good snow reliability + spectacular scenery + you can ski in Zermatt which is unbelievably expensive (even before the recent Swiss franc revaluation) - always apres ski in Italy  |

Just come back from a week in Cortina. Great skiing, 4 days sunshine and 2 days fresh powder. Good selection of blue, red and black slopes, but spread out areas meaning lots of bussing in the morning and at the end of the day. Virtually nil nightlife in Cortina. Enjoyable week with 30 other Brits but wouldn't go back. For the OP I'd recommend anywhere in the Skiwelt area in Austria. Several interlinked resorts. Soll, Itter, Scheffau, Elmau etc. Good après at the bottom of the slopes and in the villages. Fairly short airport transfers from Munich, Innsbruck or Salzburg. 280 km pistes, 90 lifts. http://www.skiwelt.at/en/ I'll probably have a day-trip there next weekend  |

Austria is superb - been to Obergurgl and Soll, both fabulous holidays, not massive resorts but quality ones. |
