Indicative of how much they're (over)spending by the fact Pox were even in for him.
Rumour up in Oxford was they offered him 4k a week

I know what you are saying and it does seem that way but the Pox have a large wedge from selling Roofe and O'Dowda (@£3.5m+) so they are just reinvesting that into the team it would seem,
But of course those fees must be treated in the same way ours last year were. Max 2m up front, relatively large wage deficit over the last seasons.

Didnt they lose nearly 3 million last year? These fees will mostly only cover their losses. I do find it amusing that they are spending big after all the stick they gave us under PDC for "buying" the league. Hope they fail miserably.

Not forgetting Uncle Firoz and his £500,000pa rent.
Still think they could go well though, unfortunately.

Apparently all losses have been budgeted for and all player sales will be reinvested in the team I read somewhere (might have been on their forum) they do seem to be going for it this term, but then again so did Bury last season and that didn't work so well! I too hope they fall flat on their face but thats a pretty normal for most Town fans to wish for.

When you read that it does seem that they all think they will be challenging for promotion. Again when I look a their squad it isn't all that or am I missing something. Roofe was probably the main reason they got promoted....

Oxford are enjoying a high point after years in the doldrums. They'll be looking at examples over the last decade like Colchester, Southend, Doncaster, Yeovil and Burton who have all kicked on in L1 to earn unlikely promotions to the Championship and asking why not Oxford? Bristol Rovers will be the same. One day, it might be Swindon again...

It's been 15 years since they were last at Div 3 level, when they finished 24th and conceded 100 goals. In the meantime they've had a few years of losing to the likes of Droysden, Hayes and Yeading and Salisbury. So I suppose its understandable that they're getting a bit over excited. They're also a club that has never really produced much in the way of 20 Football League goal strikers. Think it's 2, compared to our 24, so again understandable it's a subject they don't quite get.
