No, of course not. But does it actually bother you that much?
Not in the slightest (well obviously a little bit otherwise I wouldn't have posted it), but do we have to care passionately about every subject we post about?

I just find it slightly irkesome that I feel that I'm supposed to care about something that's about as consequential as a kid's game of hopscotch.

To reiterate my earlier point -

Bollocks to that.

I don't think you are supposed to care about it, really, not if you don't want to. But some people do, so the paper reports on it, for those people to read about. If you're not one of them, I think you're supposed to ignore it and kind of get on with your life. I may have this wrong of course, in which case I should perhaps also start slavering with rage and scorn at all the things that are in papers that I don't care about. But I hope I don't as that strikes me as being quite a tiresome waste of decent ire.

Who are these people though Paul? I can honestly say I don't know anyone who gives a toss about woman's football (apart from fatbury and we won't go there). I took the original point to be a complaint as to the imbalance between the amount of real interest in the sport and the media coverage it generates.

The way it is so seriously reported on and covered in all forms of the media suggests to me that I am most definitely supposed to care. The fact of the matter is though, it's just a truly pathetic sport.*

*I'm not going to lose any sleep over it or start frothing at the mouth with 'great rage and furious anger'...it's just my opinion, which I'm perfectly at ease with.

I know a few people who have an interest because their daughters play in various youth setups, if not in STFC ladies. But I don't know anyone who gives a shit about parish councils and the papers report on them plenty. And just because I don't know anyone that doesn't care about it, doesn't mean there aren't any.

And actually there seem to be loads of people that care about women's football, albeit in a negative sense - it generates a quite disproportionate amount of hate on here, for one thing. Which I find quite baffling to be honest.

Really? So is, to take another random example, snooker. I've never assumed that means I'm supposed to care about it. Do you get this wound up by other things you're not interested in that are reported in the news? The coverage of fishing quotas must drive you potty.

How many more times do I have to say it? I'm not 'wound up' by it. Just stating my perception of what I see as the reality of a particular situation. You don't have to actually care about something to have an opinion, do you?

Fishing quotas...now that's something I care deeply - some would say fanatically - about...just don't get me started....

Probably a good job if the overreaction to a mere headline is anything to go by.

I don't especially like cricket. So I tend not to read articles about it. I find that gets me through, by and large, while still allowing those who do like cricket to indulge their interest. I'm quite happy for them to do so. Everyone's a winner!

Ha ha, a two line comment is an over reaction these days is it? Blimey. I thought it was a 10 second bit of typing, but there you go.

If anyone is over reacting to anything on this thread it's you I'd say.

The FA have been targetting the rise in womens participation in football for years and currently have it high on their agenda so its no wonder this rubs off on the media, who lets face it have pandered to the FA for years. That being said cant see a problem with it myself, if you're not interested don't bother with it, I apply this behaviour to  'strictly', 'x factor' , 'big brother' and many other things I think are overblown.

Women's football, women's cricket. Hockey. Netball. Women's golf.

I agree it's all very dull and not particularly interesting to us blokes. Do I care that it gets reported on or bigged up? Nope, as I never look/watch/read/listen to the media.

I'm happy  Smiley

If you ever take up an interest in snooker, then don't buy a cue off Stephen Lee.

Cheers for the tip Reg. I might start watching women's snooker and write a regular column about it in the Adver.

I have a certain sympathy with OST here.  Now I'm all in favour of women's football, and don't mind watching the odd game on the box, Olympics etc, but get annoyed by the Beeb putting the women's latest scores on the website videprinter with the men's. So you look and see Bristol City are 2 down at home and think  Smiley and then see its to Everton rather than Tranmere  Angry

By all means have the scores and reports etc, but keep them as separated as a Birmingham or Bradford school educational activity.
