There's a French-speaking origin to 1-4, but can't link the last one - if it's a post-it, they were invented in America...

If the 5th pic is an envelope, there's a French origin to that word, too.

Problem is Life of Pi is by Yann Martel who, although a Canadian, was actually born in Spain

Yeah, that worried me a bit, too, but there is a tenuous French connection in that Pi's full name is Piscine Molitor (Pi) Patel and he was named after a swimming pool in Paris, apparently.

I would have guessed at France. But, TBH, I didn't notice that nobody had the answer for that one.

1.   Who sent their first tweet this week?  Prince Harry or Morrisey
2.   The wreck of which famous explorer’s ship was reported to have been discovered earlier this week?  Christopher Columbus (accept Santa Maria)
3.   What car did Dick Dastardly & Muttley drive in The Wacky Races?  The Mean Machine
4.   Name the character     Pedro Pony

5.   Which Hollywood star had an audition to join pop group Boyzone?  Colin Farrell
6.   Which two London Underground lines run entirely in Zone 1?  Waterloo & City Line  (Circle Line now spreads into Zone 2)
7.   What type of fabric takes its name from the French for ‘cloth of the king?  Corduroy  (although it’s been pointed out that this is folk etymology)
8.   What term is used to describe classical music from 1600 to around 1760?  Baroque
9.   What links these pictures?        Luncheon Vouchers (Cynthia Payne, who sold services for luncheon vouchers; another way of writing 55 is LV)

10.   What ordinary birds are seen here?    Common Linnets

11.   Who is the only person to be nominated for producing, writing, acting and directing Oscars in the same year?  Warren Beatty
12.   What name is given to someone who makes artificial eyes?  Ocularist
13.   What is the name of this town that is in the news every 10 years ?     Oberammergau
14.   Apart from the UK, what are the two Commonwealth countries in Europe?  Cyprus & Malta
15.   What is the sinister common name of the most poisonous of British mushrooms, which accounts for ninety per cent of fungus-related fatalities?  Death’s Cap
16.   ‘F’ stands for fibre in which common weight-loss method?  F-Plan Diet
17.   Which profession eats a traditional breakfast of steak & eggs?  Astronaut
18.    Can you arrive at a total of 37 by using five fives?  Any maths operator is allowed and you can group the fives as you like (eg 555 5 5).  There is more than one solution
The four basic operators are not enough, this time you will either need to use ‘factorial’! or ‘to the power of ‘^’
((5+5)/5)^5 +5 = 37
((5!+5!)-55)/5 = 37
5!/(5+5)+5x5 = 37
(Answers involving 0.5 or ^2  disallowed)

19.   What links these pictures:  Gerard Depardieu films (Life of Pi; Asterix at the Olympic Games; Man in the Iron Mask; Cyrano; Green Card)

20.   Unscramble the two words:  A A D I I J L M M S S U  ISLAM & JUDAISM
