DURING his time at Swindon Town, Vincent Pericard contemplated taking his own life.

Football is a tough old business....bit like life generally. I've always viewed it as an assault course, to be survived, looks like Vincent is managing to do that atm so fair play.

I'll give him his credit, he seems to have turned himself around and he's helping others.

But I refuse to believe his sob story. People who are depressed don't act the way he did.

His 'illness' affected my family.

I know it hits people in different ways, I've never had it myself but I've had friends and family themselves who've suffered. I just can't buy that he was depressed. It's all to convenient to shun responsibility for his behaviour.
As I said earlier, he seems to have done some good out of it, so fair play to him for reversing his ways.

That might be more credible if he'd just tossed it out as an excuse then got on with whatever else. But he's not, he's devoted a significant amount of time and effort since to trying to help others similarly afflicted. Which, as I don't imagine it's a great money-spinner (if you wanted to be really cynical), tends to suggest he's motivated to put something back by something that's affected him personally

I think we established a little while ago that it was almost compulsory to have had stress, anxiety or depression at some point to post on here. I had a meltdown about 5 years ago and I still have to watch out for the signs. I thought what Pericard said rang true of my experience. Its like there's a few stages. The first is when you're quite clearly fucked but others know but you don't - a really destructive, dangerous place to be which I feel Vince alludes to quite well. Then you have the "thank fuck" its got a label stage when you don't really give a fuck about what others think as you clearly need to get better. Then you have the "fuck me I'm a nutter" stage where some people stay away from you in case its contagious. Some people, however, are just glad you got the help you clearly needed and most don't give a fuck one way or the other.
I think he's genuine and that fact he wants to help others is quite natural.
Good luck to the bloke, I wish him well.
