We are going to Vegas for 7 nights next month and my question to all those who have been before - what is a 'suitable' amount for spending money?

I know it's a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string' question but roughly how much would one expect to spend per day, for food, a show, sightseeing and a very, very small amount of gambling?

I had the very same dilemma last year when I went to Weston-Super-Mare!

Anyway, I spent £3000 over 2 weeks in Florida but you won't have that fucking mouse sucking your money away.

Gambling depends. You can pay 1 cent on a fruit machine per spin if you want, and I still got free drinks. Though 25c and $1 is more normal. Blackjack is more expensive, you might find some $1 tables, but 5 and 10 a hand is common.

Drink is fairly expensive in the hotel/casino as you'd expect, but there are some dive bars and casino that offer 1 dollar beers.

Food depends what you want. Plenty of normal USA hard rock cafe type places to eat, plenty of high end placed too. I'd say 20 dollars a person up is about right on strip, but I'm sure there are plenty of cheaper places if you seek them out too.

So yes, how long is a piece of string Smiley

I guess Google is going to be more helpful.

I went to Vegas last September for 6 days.  Flew with Virgin from Gatwick.  Arived in Vegas at 2pm and then arrived back in the UK the following Friday morning.

The first night will probably be a write off as you will be knackered from jetlag.  Thus i wouldnt gamble a great deal.  From the time your flight lands, add 3 hours (to get through customs and check into your hotel).  On your first night, take this chance to explore the casino you are staying in and also grab a meal.

The amount of money you will need to take will depend on how much of a gambler you are.  I took £3k for the 6 days, but i mainly played cash poker (where it is difficult to lose shit loads quickly unless you dont know what you are doing).

The bigger casino's (eg MGM and Bellagio) have higher table limits - eg cheapest table games are $10 a game.  The smaller casino's have a minimum of $5 a hand.

Most shows will cost you around $60-$100.  However if you say you are from Vegas, they offer a buy one get one free promotion.  They never ask for ID, so just say you are from Vegas for a free ticket.

Drinks can be expensive if you are going to bars.  Cheapest ways to get drinks is to play table games or slot machines.  Waiters will come and ask you what drink you want, and you just have to tip them $1 for each drink.

I stayed in MGM grand, and there is a mono rail that links some of the casinos.  Your best bet is to get an all day bus pass for $8.  This takes you to most of the casinos and also the freemont street (you must visit freemont street as thats where it all started).

Not sure what hotel you are staying at but also sign up for an mlife card.  This is a loyalty card system where you accumulate points for playing slots/table games as well as purchasing food at certain hotels.  At the end of my trip, i had accumated $50 which they took off my service charge.

I took £1k worth of dollars with me and the rest in sterling cash.  You will have a safe in your room so can leave the cash in their.  Dont bother taking cash out of an atm or a prepaid card.  The atm fees are $8 a hit.  Bit of a rip off.

In terms of food, i mainly stuck to buffetts.  These cost around $20, but some casinos offer a 24 hour pass for $40 (so you can have breakfast, lunch and dinner).

You'll have an amazing time !!!

For reference hooters has 3 dollar blackjack tables. Obviously you need to convince the Mrs (??) you want to go for cheap gambling rather than scantily clad women. It's a bit out the way

Don't suppose it matters given the small stake but the win return is likely lower on these tables.

Also check out group on for mural deals.
