Will always remember the Bakalli game, pretty much a party day out where the result was thankfully totally irrelevant.

No 6 about Dean Casserley is wrong as well Reg, as they've written that we got knocked out of the FRT after losing to Brentford in Jan 87 whereas we all know (and remember) Aldershot knocked us out in the semis after Fraser was sent off.

He is actually dual nationality......Finnish not being one of them! He is Albanian/Belgian.

I gave up reading it after the Bakalli effort.  However we did lose the game, I can't remember the detail, but there must have been some sort of group stage, and we were already through maybe?

Getting through against Bormuff was a cracker, 2-0 down in extra time, then pull it back to 2-2, and win on pens. Charlie Henry scores the winner with 10:30 on the Deacon's clock and the pitch covered in thick white frost.

Mysteriously, it's now been changed to Belgian. If we had another Belgian, and I don't think we have, then Bakalli could be swapped to add to the growing list of different nationalities to have turned out for us.

Macari was keen on a Belgian lad called Paul op de Beeck, who came over having been with Club Brugge, but we couldn't match his terms...or he wasn't happy with a brown envelope.

Wasn't the Stoke game in May 2001 away conceding 4 goals? Seem to remember it didn't matter as we stayed up the week before and taunted the Stoke fans we'd see them next season as they'd fuck the play offs - something they did!

Rovers fucked it to keep us up....lost to Wycombe at home.

Must admit I don't remember Paul op de Beeck, but I have heard of the family who have strong footballing connections in Belgium.

I know we didn't offer much money under Macari but had certain "ahem" bonuses paid upon crowds/program sales etc.

We had a lad on trial, played a few reserve games under Macari in the 4th division, Steve Tobin, who scored 4 goals in one game for the reserves and 7 goals in 3 games but we couldnt get anywhere near his wages (plus his P/T football wages) as a bricklayer or something and chose to stay non league, i expect he regrets not signing as we went out and signed Colin Gordon and he took us to the Championship of the 4th.

Yes, we even saw some banners on the motorway from Bristol City thanking us for sending Rovers down Grin

Didn't Rovers somehow lose 2 home games during the midweek between our games against Posh and Stoke?

The importance of Invincible's wonder goal will never be forgotten.

Yeah, they had games in hand, lost to Port Vale on Monday and Wycombe on Wednesday  Smiley a single point as it turned out would have kept them up at our expense.

I know Lawrie Sanchez isn't liked by many on here, but I was always grateful to him for that Wednesday night, sending out his side to do a professional job, in a game which didn't matter to them.

A sharp contrast to our friends along the A420, who a couple of games previous basically threw a game at the Mem, and went for 6, in a game which also didn't matter to them as they were already down.
