Jimmy Wagstaff apparently

http://www.talkswindon.org/index.php?topic=7834.0

I remember him from a young age. Mum used to work in Jewellers just across from where he sold / shouted on the parade. She had a plan to shoot him on more than one occasion.

My mate once asked him if they stuffed new batteries up his arse every weekend.

"Fuck off" was his witty reply.

Always followed by "yap yap yap yap yap"

He's been mentioned on the TEF before I think.  He had a child when he was 80? Or am I making it up?

Nope and the bird was quiet a fit little thing....

Of course. It wasn't a trip to Swindon without hearing him. Used to stand by the bakery nearish Debenhams. I too though that bakery was Devon Savouries. They used to do a mean cheese and ham pastry thing.

Adddddddveeeeer (muffled)

It was.  At one point there were three Devon Savouries.  One by the market, one at the top of town and one by the Adver man that Sonic mentioned.

Did they go out of business?  They were nicer than Greggs.

To be fair, eating the Advers sold by the guy who has bafflingly taken over this thread that (briefly) started out as being about openly gay footballers would be nicer than Greggs.

I only remember the yab yab man from down opposite tesco and debenhams by the now gone alleyway that led towards fleet street, where the public toilets were.
I thought the bakery by mcilroys was called Swiss chalet ?

That is exactly where he stood. Millets was on the corner of the alleyway. I remember those toilets, they had that horrible tracing paper for bog roll.

Mention of Devon Savouries took me immediately back to my yoof.....they did great pasties with a really good crumbly pastry.  Guess they disappeared when the Greggs of this world took over.

As for gay footballers.....why the hell is it still some sort of embarrassed, under the counter type reposnse, especially from the media?  Is football really still that macho?
