Sorry that I didn't use  Wink to signify my feeble attempt at satire/ sarcasm......

It's not so much what you said - I just cant get my head round what is so intoxicating for him not to bother turning up on a regular basis.

If he was a complete pisshead I could understand it, but spunking away what must be one of the best ways to make a living for a young man does my head in

Me too.

I really do wonder if todays young footballer really does have it too easy?

No boot cleaning duty, no being an older pro's gofer. All treated like fragile little darlings.

No opportunity to weed out those without the 'get stuck in to it' attitude.

A colleague is a Chelsea saeason ticket holder. He is aware of a young Chelsea footballer- nowhere near reserve team, let alone first team status. Always on loan to lower league teams. £14k a week and he is younger than 20 Doh

11 years since SSP's debut. How long ago does that feel?

About 11 years as it happens...

Nail. Hammer. Head. Naturally you want to pay the top performers, top dollar. All that ends up doing is inflating the mid range players wages to an unsustainable level, and in turn the yoofs are on stupid money before they've earned it.

The Fitton model of performance related pay is good in principle, but you need it to apply across the industry otherwise players will bugger off to whoever pays the most.

14k a week (even if it was a month!). Bloody hell. The football world is mad.

Can't say id turn down 700k a year. You can see why the most promising youngsters go for that and sacrifice their career instead of staying and playing for the likes of Swindon.

But the majority of those youngsters starting at top clubs end up dropping down the leagues anyway. What they earn is irrelevant as long as they apply themselves.

Super Sammy Parkin is a prime example.

this was his final chance, he had a good gig at NUFC getting paid a fair amount for a reserve player, but went and fucked it up too many times. STFC gave him a 7th chance, and he threw it back in the clubs face.

I remember when Milner was here driving a black tarted up focus, leather seats, tv screens and private plate and what was he, 17/18.

If you want to keep talent you have to pay for it and the best we will do is get these guys on loan or find them on the way back up.

Real shame for the club as he was a good player.

You have young pro's at the club champing at the bit...going out on loan and applying themselfs just for a sniff of a chance in the first team.
I think the club should use Nile Ranger as a tenplate of not how to conduct yourself if you are hoping to make a living from playing for a great club like ours.

Alex Henshall being a prime example....now 19, so physically starting to be a man, yet was quickly binned by Rovers, on loan as he presumably wasn't good enough, and they're rubbish.

Could be heading the way of Matty Collins, who left us for Fulham for a similar fee as Henshall...5 years at Fulham, not doing much, the last 3 years in the League of Wales.....Haverfordwest, Neath, Aberystwyth and now Carmarthen Town...still only 27.

If however, you clean up 4 or 5 years of silly Prem money, then you should be able to set yourself up for a comfortable life, even if not making it.

I agree with both camps - I think he could be a very good player /source of profit for us, but he is disruptive to the morale of the team at the moment.
But I think there is an answer which is a compromise Smiley

Give him time off and tell him to stay away until the trial is over !
It's only natural that this hanging over him and distracting him. Try to imagine if you were a few weeks away from a rape trial - I think you'd agree it would be very difficult to concentrate on anything else !

So, wait until after the trial. If he's found guilty then obviously he is no longer an STFC player. But if he's found innocent it just MAY be that he can relax and begin rebuilding his life, and start to be the great asset to Town that he undoubtably COULD be !

If he then continues to f*%k up then get rid of him then.

Nothing to lose !

You seem to be forgetting that he has plenty of previous for this - without a trial hanging over him.

It's how he is. He will not change.

Its not just this trial, he's been arrested on 7 separate occasions. Now that cannot be a coincidence. He's a bad egg.
