This thread could basically be used as a pitch for a TV show - "Who's boozer?" with either Ross Kemp or Al Murray, kind of a low-rent, more down to earth version of "Through the Keyhole" but where punters try to guess the landlord from the decorations behind the bar/in the bogs.

I'll have £500k as creative consultant when you sell it to the Beeb.

You might struggle to find a celebrity landlord, although Howard Taylor might think his stint on Heart FM qualifies him. Far better to have to guess which celeb drinks in the pub as a local....Lloyd Grossman style voice over.....who drinks in a pub like this.

Shame Reg Pressley has gone, because The Barge at Honey Street would have been a good starter.

It's The Gardeners Arms in Lewes. Town fan called Andy ran it for years. When the new landlord took over (a good few years ago) he wanted to keep the pictures (for some reason) so put them up in the bogs.

Probably to wind up Scum fans, when they pitched up in Lewes in their second spell of non league football about 5 years ago.

I don't suppose losing 2-1 at the Dripping Pan anmused them too much.

I'm disappointed in you Reg. Surely this should have acted as the perfect trigger for much reminiscing about how in the old days footballers still needed to actually work for a living when they retired and so many used their retirement pot/testimonial money to buy a pub? You're slipping Smiley

Stop trying to deflect that your original idea was a bit shit for a program but with my input it could have legs. Don't worry I'll share the creative consultant fee with you....60/40

Gardeners arms Lewes.  Looks like a nice cosy real ale drinkers gaff with a town fan in charge.  Nice.

Gardener's Arms down Westcott Place was an interesting boozer....mainly Irish pub, for those banned from the Ship.

I have EXACTLY that picture in my toilet.

However I don't live in a Sussex pub.

More's the pity.

Indeed....once upon a time you could do an entertaining pub crawl around FaringdonRoad/Westcott Place area...now mostly gone.  Locomotive, Sir Dan, Grapes, Greyhound, Ship, Gardeners, Falcon, Wild Deer.
