Ridehalgh cleared for County Ground return

  LIAM Ridehalgh will be able to feature for Tranmere Rovers against former club Swindon Town this weekend after the Whites successfully appealed against the full-back’s red card in the recent clash with Port Vale.

I struggle to remember what some of the loanees we had in L2 were like. Ridehalgh is one of them.

He was solid if unspectacular and certainly no better than Jay Mac IMO. But saying that he was very fit and not bad going forward without a great final ball, actually he was very similar to Jay Mac just a lot smaller.

He'd have to be pretty poor not to be better than JMac...

I bet he would have beaten Hume to that header last week! *Conjecture*

[Rant] And this is his red card that was overturned on appeal.

Was the wrong player booked? Was he the last man denying a goal-scoring opportunity? Was it unreasonable of the ref to deem that a red card offence?

Like the Walsall player whose card vs Orient was rescinded. Yes, if you look very carefully he got the ball first, but was the challenge dangerous? Was the ref clearly wrong to issue a red?

Why was Byrne's challenge so much worse than these? When did we last lodge a successful red card appeal? [/Rant]

Just my opinion, but

(i) Referees are not biased against Swindon Town - we are largely irrelevant in that we do not merit special treatment, positive or negative;

(ii) They call it as they see it, they just happen to get it wrong from time to time, or just happen to be different people, of differening ability, seeing different events, from different angles, at different speeds.

(iii) The fact we have started to play passing football does not mean we should get special treatment. The fact that the letter has been written will not change (i) or (ii).

In case any of that was aimed at me, I agree with everything you say.

It just strikes me as extremely frustrating that the considered view of the football authorities seems to be as inconsistent as the much more understandable inconsistency of individual referees.

Our best left back since Jamie Vincent, says a lot about the quality of left backs we've had over the last few years.
