I have next week off work and want to take the Mrs out one afternoon. Bored of going to pubs and restaurants so for something different can anyone recommend a place that does a decent afternoon tea? Criteria:

1) Budget is around £50 for two

2) I can drive and have a car so anywhere up to 30 minutes or so away from North Swindon by car is fine.

3) But needs to serve early enough to get back to Swindon by 3pm to pick her kiddy up from school. This probably kills most recommendations - I'm hoping to rope her mum into picking her kiddy up so if there is only the option of the traditional time slot just put so in your recommendation.

Failing that a decent cafe/tea room and I'll just order whatever looks good.

Huffkins in Burford seems to tick the boxes - has anyone been?

Huffkins is very nice. Bourton on the Water has some nice places as well. In all honesty just pick a Cotswolds village and go for it.

Lardy cake at Huffkins is superb

Cheers. Hadn't thought of Bourton-on-the-Water to be honest.

The Sampaguita Café in Calne opposite St Mary's Church. Run by Filipinos.

Does a good scone and jam and to my delight they do a nice brie and lettuce baguette, made to order. Say you know Dosser and they'll phlegm in your cream tea.

Take her to the Polly tea rooms in Marlborough; a quick walk down the river and a snoop in the quirky shops afterwards. You'll be on a promise for sure

The Blades Bistro in beautiful Cirencester does a good cheese board if you like indulging in the fromage. The proprietor was looking to bring in the Black Bomber extra mature cheddar on my recommendation. Mention Dosser and get some man juice in your lentil broth.

Cakes and Ale Café in Devizes Road, Swindon, does a great chocolate and jam sponge. The ambience is superb. Mention Dosser and get short changed  Suicide

Some friends of mine went to Stanton House the other week for afternoon tea and have raved about it ever since.

Huffkins is very good but if you are willing to spend up to £50 I would go somewhere a bit more special.
