This is what I don't understand.  Ferry leaves us essentially because he was too expensive for Austerity Swindon.  And he ends up at a club with a wage bill significantly lower than our own (even if it isn't half of what ours is, as reported).  I'm sure I've posted previously that he can't have been that expensive, can he?  And if, as has been suggested, he was prepared to take a cut to move to Portsmouth, would he not have been prepared to take a small cut to stay with us?

It just feels to me that we have let one of our top performers from recent years go too easily.  Youth is all well & good, but you need experience as well to provide some balance.

Maybe, and I should whisper this quietly to avoid being lynched, he was not really as good as people thought so he was not offered a new deal for footballing reasons. Clearly Power thought he wasn't up to scratch and him dropping a league backs up the decision to let him go.

Yeah, I would have him in our current side but I think some people need to come to terms with the fact that he is really not as good as they thought.

I had the same thought but the end of the day it's not about total budget set but remaining budget available.

If ours is 2.4m and we are spending 2.6m then we have -0.2m to spend.
If Portsmouths is 1.2m but they are currently only spending 0.6m then they have a further 0.6m to work with.

We could have at least tried some to offer slightly reduced terms, what's the worst that could have happened, he says no and left on a free....

Him and Devera are losses to our squad, no doubt...

Judging by the way that Kmac began to use Ferry on the wing, you get the feeling he perhaps was just not wanted.

Either that or it was a toss up between Al Mac and Ferry over who stayed due to wages, it then back fired and we ended up with neither.

Nope, he's better than people think. A lot of our fans are not intelligent enough to see what he bought to the team.

That depends if the spurs yoof HAVE to play. If so then he is too expensive to sit on the bench.

That's a big if. But it's one of many explanations.

I think it more likely the budget was being cut as quickly as possible and getting rid of out of contract players was simplest. Regardless of the on field consequences.

I would suspect that a month essentially on the rock and roll and the fact that the new season starts ina couple of weeks may have made Mr Ferry a little more flexible on his wage expectations. People forget that at this level players have mortgages to pay.

What he brought is clear. What is also clear is that he is limited as a player and has dropped a level.
We will definitely miss him this season though so you'll rate him even more now he's gone.
