I thought we had one of the best training facilities in Leagues 1&2?

I guess we could have and could still do with an upgrade though....that's probably not saying much.

Wanborough, is a lovely spot....just out of town, handy for the M4, for players based in London or suburbs etc.

But is essentially a couple of pitches, with associated changing rooms. The players would return to base to do other stuff.

Is this an extension of what is already there, I assume we would lease the facilities the same as we do now ?

It's not too bad, new changing rooms will be needed, fencing, lights, full time groundsman. Still a lot of work/money to make it championship standard.
To me, it's just a nice clean standard cricket/sunday league football place.

Nice little bar for Jed. though.

I wonder how much it affects all the Sunday League teams that play there?

I just don't see how they are ever going to deliver the works in the timetable he is suggesting, its two months for planning permission before he does anything else.

The current pitches at wanborough are very good and solely used by stfc. Can't see that being bettered unless calne provide the 9 pitches currently available and not allow them use by anyone else.

My understanding is that they are not solely for the use of STFC, only the ones in front of the changing rooms.  My son used to play for Wanborough in the sunday league and they were moved from the "front" ones to the side ones - they are now playing back down in the village - with a hockey pitch also developed there, but the owners PGL use some of the pitches for the kids activities.  That said there are only changing rooms there, the new facilities will have other facilities such as a gym, all weather pitch and small "conferencing" type rooms, for team meetings etc.  I really don't see a problem moving the training ground especially if we are bettering ourselves - and Calne is not exactly the end of the world and does give STFC a presence within more of the centre of the county.

how long ago was that when your son played there?
The pitches to the left of the clubhouse(facing outwards from the clubhouse itself) are sometimes used by others, but the rest are only used by stfc. I played up there a few times years ago but it is rare to see any other matches going on there nowadays. None at all on the stfc pitches.

Will calne offer that? Apart from an all weather surface the other facilities are already available either at wanborough or the county ground. 3g is available and used at greendown school.

I think they're all used in the summer/off season, but that's a different story as town are out of training then.

They used to play there before that new ground at Wanborough came on stream - possibly 10 years ago now.  They had the pitch in front of the clubhouse but got moved over to the right hand side behind the hedge!!  My understanding - and that may have been caused by a poster on here - was that PGL were not that keen on us being up there anyway.  The facilities at Calne overall do sound an improvement on Wanborough, we will just have to wait and see!!
