Went to Marmaris(spolling) on a day trip a few years back.
Cheap as fuck if you  are into Efes and snide tracksuits.
Efes is wonderful stuff.

Couldn't agree more. A cold Efes by the sea is a real treat!

Yeah Efes is alright. Apparently not really Turkish though??

I was all inclusive so didn't get a pint out and about but went for lunch/dinner/cocktails a few times. All very pricey but they will haggle with you, even in a 'proper' restaurant.

Heading to Thailand in less than a month. Surely that's cheap?

Whereabouts are you going?
Do you want to go out boozing? (How much would you drink?)
Would you want to go on all the tours?
Could you eat the cheap Thai food or will you need Western food?
How long is a piece of string?

Whereabouts are you going? Not sure yet. Planning to fly into Bangkok, stay there for a couple of days and then go Island hopping probably
Do you want to go out boozing? (How much would you drink?) Nah, a few beers probably but not to get wasted. Going with the good lady, not a lads holiday.
Would you want to go on all the tours? Not really. Generally will try and do our own thing, but possibly a few tours here and there.
Could you eat the cheap Thai food or will you need Western food? Will definately want to sample as much Thai food as possible, love the stuff and can't wait to try the real deal!
How long is a piece of string? 4ft 2.

How much you spend in Thailand depends a lot on you. Some people are happpy spending a fiver a day (accommodation excluded) where others will spend a lot more.

Thai food is nice but it is often poor quality out here (the fat isn't trimmed etc). You should also expect it to be a lot spicier than you are used to at home. Eating Western food can get pricey.

I've probably not helped much, but there's no definitive answer really.

haha! no deal!

Cheers for the feedback. I like spicy, so the food bit sounds ideal!

I hear what you are saying about making it as cheap as you want, will go with the flow and take it from there!

If I need any more advice, I know exactly where to come!

Was there any discontent when you were there, Jay?

Seems to be not far off a full civil revolt, especially if reports of the military being divided is true - http://occupygezipics.tumblr.com/

Meanwhile, Turkish TV isn't covering it at all - https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/935439_10151535860905889_199045873_n.jpg

There was some sort of car bomb, possibly by the Syrians but I didn't pay too much attention. The Turks seems to be a very laid back people but apparently the touristy areas are like that and the rest of the country is a lot different.

The east is generally deemed pretty dangerous. But as you say the tourist areas are generally more secular and there are few problems.

The Turks and the Kurds don't exactly see eye to eye!

Turks and Kurds work side by side in many places around Bodrum. The bartender in our hotel was Kurdish.
