WOMEN'S FOOTBALL: Town Ladies boss 'had no choice but to quit'

SWINDON Town Ladies boss Glyn Evans has blamed broken promises from the club’s new board and secret meetings held behind his back for making his position untenable.

From reading that, for once I'd be prepared to give Jed the benefit of the doubt. The complaint seems to be that the move was motivated by a desire to attract more funding, and will have the effect of attracting players from other local teams. So apart from the customary lack of openness in making the change, I don't really see a problem.

I agree with this, however, the issue may well be Jed saying one thing to his face and then going away and doing something completely different with no communication whatsoever - sound familiar

Which is more interest than 99% of people who follow the men's team.

First I've heard of this Evans fella, at least he can look for a proper coaching job now

Quote
Evans also believes operating the ladies’ team through Football in the Community’s school of excellence model will also have a knock-on effect to the rest of women’s football in Wiltshire.

“They have basically said they are going to try and turn their centre of excellence into Swindon Town Ladies, and I don’t think the other teams in Wiltshire like Swindon Spitfires and Highworth are going to be very happy about that,” he said.

“All the girls will go there and be part of them, and they will take players away from the other clubs, so it is all wrong.

Welcome to football, Glyn.

I was trying to make sense of this.

I'm not sure whether it is written to try to link the nature of departure of the ladies team manager with that of DiCanio, or not? Phrases such as 'broken promises' and position being 'untenable' were similar.

Calling into question the integrity of the new board was also a bit worrying.

But then, the bit about cost reductions (losing a manager and assistant) while at the same time attracting new money through grants sounded like a logical step - Unpopular perhaps, but without understanding the details its hard to draw a firm conclusion.

I guess the thing to come out of this story is a continued feeling of unease and wariness of the current board.

I did some coaching along side him a few years ago, he told me he was expecting to be coaching for a top 4 premier league side within 6 months.... This is the first time I've seen his name anywhere since.

He doesn't even have a Wiki page, he sounds like a total teapot!

Well yes, but if someone says to you they'll do something, then do something different behind your back its going to annoy you.

Even if from the clubs point of view its the right thing to doi

Like most I'm not too fussed about the decision being taken , but this looks like yet another example of Jed & co saying what they think would be a popular course of action (most likely in absence of real facts) and then totally failing on delivery.
