A goalkeeper who is injured while kicks are being taken from the penalty mark and is unable to continue as goalkeeper may be replaced by a named substitute provided his team has not used the maximum number of substitutes permitted under the competition rules
•With the exception of the foregoing case, only players who are on the field of play at the end of the match, which includes extra time where appropriate, are eligible to take kicks from the penalty mark

Has this ever happened?

The penalty shoot out question I've always had is; what happens if one team is down to 10 players due to a sending off and after 10 penalties there still isn't a winner? Do they have to forego a penalty? Do both teams start afresh?

Think it happened in an Arsenal game but I'm still none the wiser what the rule book says.

You carry on as normal. So the 11th player takes a penalty against any of the 10 on the other team.

The team with 11 have to nominate a player who will not take one.  He then has to leave the pitch as only players who finished the match and are entitled to take a penalty are allowed there, and they have to stay in the centre circle.

After 10 penalties each, you go around again in the same order until you have a winner.

And can you get sent off after the final whistle? If so, if you have a really cack penalty taker it makes perfect sense for them to quickly go and call the ref a cunt.

I haven't a clue, deleting my comment will just look stupid now. Learn something new everyday.

Why the same order?

Can a player who is not part of the matchday squad but has travelled up to a game be sent off?

Dunno! Never bothered to ask.  I guess it is so there is no confusion as to who has taken one, after all number 7 shouldn't be able to take 3 penalties before number 9 has taken his first.

Would be interested to find out what the longest shoot out was, but can't be arsed to look!

Did this happen in the Brentford game then, as Byrne had been sent off? I didn't see a Brentford player being banished to the touchline...

Not sent off, but you can be reported and disciplined in the same manner as if you were playing.  So if you have ever called the ref a cunt and thought that not playing at the time you could get away with it...!

I wasn't there so can't say.  It SHOULD of happened, and although the ref should have been told who was chosen to be left out, it is he responsibility of the assistant who isn't monitoring the goal line to enforce it.

Although I presume if you nominate your keeper, he can still stay on the pitch as he's quite clearly still involved in the penalty shoot out? Or is there some daft rule that you can't nominate him?

The game should be replayed, this isn't on.
