Can you help me fix a problem with my inlaws pc please?
They are running XP and apparently inadvertently downloaded loads of crap programs off the internet. The asked me to get rid of it all and try to get their pc running the way it used to.
I tried a System Restore, but that didn't work. So I then went through Revu Uninstaller to uninstall everything that I (and they) didn't recognise.
All seemed well until they phoned the next day to say that they were getting a box popping up when they ran IE which said something along the lines of Kernell 32.dll error. Version Info Unicode 326.TVI.664W.N5.1.2600.2 Service Pack 3 IE 8.0.6001.18702.
Can anyone give me any tips on how to fix this please?
Thanks

Gorse Hill is a loooong way from my outlaws!
I'll try the link that Jayohaitchenn suggests.
Any other suggestions welcome.

I suspect you've probably done this but try asking them to reinstall/upgrade IE if it's only happening when they run IE?

A kernel32.dll error is usually deleting a file that is needed while uninstalling programs from windows.
Do a ccleaner and registry clean it, also run malwarebytes and superantispyware as often virusses/trojans can delete or corrupt the dll or registry which sounds likely to be the case.
If that does not work then try a system restore from the oldest restore point rather than the most recent, (this does not often work with kernel errors) failing that I would reinstall windows I am afraid.

I ran AVG which he has on there - No issues.
I then ran Malware Antibytes - No issues.
system Restore didn't work.
Do we have a good recommended link for ccleaner (which I assume is a program) or a registry cleaner?

With ccleaner make sure all the boxes are ticked (except wipe free space) then run it and run the registry cleaner too, run them both twice and also make sure that there is nothing shitty in the startup processes too.

Tried the ccleaner and registry clean x 4 plus a few reboots. No change.
Decided to go down the route of uninstalling and reinstalling IE. Before doing so I downloaded Firefox and copied over all of the settings from IE - Works fine.
Showed it to the in-laws who said they were happy to try using Firefox instead.
So, haven't bothered to reinstall IE - Will leave that joy for another day!
