Alright, alright, I'm fully prepared for the barracking. I was just watching the highlights of the Women's Super League for a 'wonder goal' (not as described really), and, what with the increasing image the woman's game is getting in this country, it got me thinking about the good and bad sides of women's football- i.e. what to they do as well as, (or better) than the blokes, and what needs work/looks out of place.

It's fascinating to me that the passing is often impressive, but the goalies look terrible.

Anyone got any more insightful observations?

(Cue obligatary barrage of sexist comments/insinuations on my sexuality)

You know a sport must be shit when the BBC outbids Sky for the rights to broadcast it.

There isn't as much diving, cheating, or hounding the ref... all positives. It's still shite though.

Lots seem to be scared of balls, and not just the one on the pitch!

I don't want to laugh, because she's U17 and it's kind of unfair, but on the other hand, it's really fucking funny.

Such is the way with a lot of women in professional (and amateur) sport.

The weird thing about the goalie issue is that it's not like women make crap hockey goalies, so it's not like there's a real reason for them to be so bad...

It's all good...particularly if it gets to involve lots of girl kids in the game, and so helps to take them away from the worst aspects of media/advertising induced...concerns about body fascism and self image.

Similar for rugby and cricket. The one good thing that Jed has said, is that the club want to engage more with the ladies.
