However our current situation is making it quite difficult to move on and stop saying 'if only'.

Alas, of course it won't.

We're were really pushing for automatic promotion under Di Canio and pretty much all of us believe that it could/would have happened - 'if only' indeed.

What has frustrated me the most post-PDC is that the fans who have to backed his actions to the hilt largely fail to realise why other/many Town fans accepted his departure quicker than others. It has nothing to do with his win ratio or managerial ability in general. It's because he was part of a business model that was on the fast track to killing the club.

Funny thing is that after all is said and done, promotion is still a possibility! It's not going to happen but it's still there.

Fair play to Di Canio's work today, he got it absolutely spot on... and in a derby too.

DRS stated on Twitter that Di Canio's win today will have done Swindon Town no favours and he's absolutely right.

Passion,commitment.......a great result.....everything missing from yesterdays debacle.

After watching that horror show yesterday Paolo and his antics today made me realise why i loved him so much.

Sunderland have a gem there as a manager....politics aside.

It's because he was part of a business model that was on the fast track to killing the club.

But was it? Unsustainable without question.  Absolutely spot on the wage cap issue should never have happened, Wray/Watkins messed that one up. And Black says he never bought into a 3 year plan.

But I have yet to see where we were overspending according to Black's agreed budget. As long as we did this, and as long as Black was around, we weren't going bust.

If Black failed to buy in to a 'plan' then he was always prone to pulling the plug like he did. Hindsight points towards a bit more caution in that respect. The club were not cautious and therefore prone to putting the club in serious threat of going out of business.

...and for all we know, we still are as a result of it.

But if someone says they will fund the season, then don't fund the season it will happen. If you think we should be self sufficient fair enough.

I read your post as blaming PDC spending the money he was told he could spend. I don't think that's fair myself.

I don't think there are money clubs around that couldn't be in the position now. City, Oxford, Bournemouth, most.

Having defended him on that, he can go fuck himself on this

" @BBCSport: Sunderland manager Paolo Di Canio said his side's win over Newcastle was the pinnacle of his managerial career #safc"

Though really its just a 'tell 'em what the want to hear' moment that he's good at.

No I'm not blaming Di Canio and tried/failed to put emphasis on that. When I included PDC's name within my original post I was referring to Di Canio as being a part of Wray's vision (I could be referring to any high profile name). Once they all went then PDC was never going to remain. It was never going to be about McCrory or anyone convincing PDC to stay, the guy was gone.

PDC's crime, in my opinion, was walking out when he did and insisting on kicking players out near enough on a whim. The board hopefully at least tried to prevent it.

I really hoped he'd fall flat on his face and take them down this season - but based on today he isn't and with the players he has and the work rate he demands plus a few additions they'll do well next season.

Indeed...though not defensible it explains in large part his "roman salute" - anything to appear loyal to whatever fans he's supposedly pledging allegiance to.

Di Canio's loyalty extends no further than himself. He's a megalomaniac who has always struggled with authority,  but demands unwavering allegiance to himself.
I would still like him as our manager, but he's outgrown us and, if successful there, he'll outgrow Sunderland too.

But even so, did Wray spend more than he was told he could - other than cocking up the wage budget ? Or put another way I think Black rather than Wray has (probably) left the club in a good state in terms of debt but stitched us up by leaving in the manner and at the time he did. And I'd hold him responsible if the Jedortium really do turn out to be the trotters.

Agree with that. Though I think that describes every manager to manage Swindon in recent times and every manager that will manage Swindon in the future. Cheery thought.
