Hello friends.

I have a meeting in Oxford Circus at 10am on Weds so I need to get to Paddington around 9am. Trains landing around then are twice as expensive as ones landing at 10am, peak commute times presumably.

My question is, if I buy the off peak ticket will the machines/barriers at Paddington spit it out before a certain time eg 10am if I bowl in earlier? I'd always assumed they werent that clever, but...

Not sure at all on the barriers. The ticket snappers will be all over you like a cheap suit though if they catch you. Full fare plus a £25 penalty fare i think. Your gamble but personally i wouldn't risk it, unless you want to travel the journey in the bog of course.

The ticket machines at Swindon won't let you through on an off-peak ticket at peak times.
