...and yet it was one of better seasons.

Although we were about a 4 man team that year. I wonder if in a way the tragedy of Davis motivated us not just against County but for the whole season.

In a way it's also a shame M££ney turned out to be such a money grabbing cunt.

I would say the success of that season had nothing to do with Jimmy Davis and everything to do with Tommy Mooney.

In relation to your second statement, no one can accuse 3rd Division footballers of being 'money grabbing', that's ridiculous. At that level you have to make what you can while you still can. Premier League footballers -that's a different matter.

Your posts are generally pretty sensible and you seem like a relatively intelligent person DV but when it comes to Mooney you have a blind spot and you only seem able to come out with complete and utter shit where he is concerned. You're not the only one mind you.

He said he'd sign a new contract for us then fucked off to Oxford who were (as per usual) a division below us.

Says it all really, doesn't it...

You're also doing Super Sammy Parkin a disservice by claiming our success had everything to do with cunting Mooney...

On the first point - things change. He probably did intend to sign a new deal then another Club came in offering more money. It's a hell of a shame that out of 91 other clubs, that club just happened to be Oxford but there you go.

On the second point - yes Parkin had a good season as did a number of players. Clearly, you're not going to get to the play offs on the back of one single player but Mooney was massively influential. Ask yourself this - the next season Mooney had gone, Parkin was still at the club. How did that turn out? Let me remind you. We finished mid-table which is where we would have finished the previous season if we'd not had Mooney.

I don't expect you for one second to accept any of what I am saying becuase as I say, you seem to have a complete inability to have a rational thought where Mooney is concerned. He went to Oxford, therefore he is the Anti-Christ.

FWIW, I've a feeling that he would not have been anything like as effective had he stayed for a second season. I think his form was dropping off a bit towards the end of that season with us and maybe that's why he dropped down to Div 4. Perhaps he thought he couldn't hack it any more? We'll never know of course.

DV probably still has a grudge for not marking Virgo properly in the play-off semi at Brighton.

Mooney was shite for months in the run in and argued with players during games etc. Not a team player and a cunt. I remember the home game with barnsley where he lost the plot and got subbed at half time. He had had it by then, we just couldn't see it.

That makes more sense than hating someone for signing for Oxford... terrible bit of marking!

And if memory serves didn't he put the ball out of play for a needless throw in as well?
