To say Black was 'only the money man' sort of misses the point doesn't it? He funded the thing almost singlehandedly. There's a reason Wray was so popular with us, and Paolo, he kept spending the money!! (or backing the manager in media speak)

It just happened to be Black's money he was spending.

Without Mr Black, there would have been no Mr Wray backing Paolo to the hilt and earning adulation from a grateful fanbase!
Pretty easy to be popular when you're spending someone elses money!  Wink

Like the Labour Governement. Sadly this government and the NEXT TWO OR THREE will be the unpopular fall guys sorting it out. Unless the electorate are that stupid as to vote labour back in again, which i am sure they will.

Well I'm glad the public will be stupid enough to vote labour, and using your logic the tories should never be allowed back in either becasuse they happened to in office on black Wednesday, so we better all vote the Lib Dems.

They had the presence of mind to pull out of the ERM when they realised that it's mechanism like the Euro project is an was fundamently flawed. Then low and behold the ecommy pick up. who'd a thought it. Still at least they did not sell a massive chunk of our gold reserves at the bottom of the market and inform the markets it was going to do so and when, comrade.

Trying to defend the Tories over Black Wednesday is a little outrageous, they should of never shadowed the Deutsche Mark, a mistake that cost the country billions, and on the other hand it's ridiculous to blame Labour for the sub prime market in the USA or the collapse of Lehmam brothers, that is Tory nonsense and in reality Labour had very little to do with the 2008 crash, however they did do some great things in office such as the minimum wage, civil partnerships, an end to the conflict in Ireland, paternity leave for fathers, fox hunting ban, winter fuel allowance, I could go on and on about the real social change that was made under Labour, the type of change that is impossible under under any Tory Government.

Its a good analogy, keeping the political persuasion out of it (red blue irrelevant) the point is that people (fans, electorate, whoever) generally don't question where the money is coming from as long as it keeps coming.

In Labour's case they spent money the country never had and will be paying off for the next few generations: In Swindon's case they spent money the club never had and could never pay off. Hence the need for Mr Black to say stop I've had enough.

I agree shadowing the DM was disastrous economics, but the policy had the full back of Labour and the Liberals who would have done the same. In fact they criticised the Tories for not going in quicker - "we can fight the speculators if we join" said a certain shadow chancellor by the name of Brown. It just so happened that when the music stopped it happened on Tory watch.

Exactly. In other words don't castigate Black or the Conservative government. Difficult times, difficult decisions.

Just as a point of information...it's a Coalition Government. The Conservatives were unable to win the last election.

Tories spend years closing-selling and ruining everything that doesn't affect the rich,Labour spend years trying to repair it and went too far last time.
I didn't vote Labour last time after always doing so,but will be next time. Voted Lib-dem as i thought they might offer something different(mistake) It's either shit or shitter imo,so i'd rather go for shit. Labour will win i'm sure but don't think they have the right leader(too wet and sounds like he's got a gob stopper in his mouth when he speaks)

Until the property bubble is allowed to burst here, this country is heading in one direction, regardless of the colour of it's leaders' ties!!

As long as interest rates remain negative (real terms) jobs will keep getting outsourced, inflation will continue to run rampant, less spending, less jobs less economy.

Could all be solved with a bit of short term pain if the government stopped interfering with property prices and let the market correct.

But of course no government wants that on their watch, so they keep on kicking the can down the road!

The colour of party is largely irrelevant in my opinion. Just a bit of window dressing for us plebs! Grin
