More importantly you get the impression that he would love to stay for a long time

Does anyone know what the regulations say about approaching players in the last year of their contract? I wondered if other clubs could sign him up shortly on a deal for the summer.

Pretty sure last six months of their deal you're allowed to approach them about signing them immediately after their contract finishes with no compensation as long as over the age of 23.
That's if my Football/Championship Manager days were correct and my memory is right.

Definatley need to sign him up, essential for us if we are in League 1 next season, and good enough for the Championship if we go up.

I believe that is the case. You would imagine it wont be too long until his agent starts to gauge what interest there is from other clubs.

That's only if the club and player are in different countries. So a club in Scotland could sign him on a pre-contract now, but not one in England. Fuck knows why it works like that, think it must be a UEFA/FIFA thing.

1. Simon has a son called Frankie. 2. Frier My Son is an anagram of Simon Ferry. 3. The result is Frankie Frier of Soccer AM fame.

Ironically Ciao Paid Loon is an anagram of Paolo Di Canio. Anagrams are great. Also, Ciao Loan Id Op - A succinct summary of his recent wheeler dealing and giving away of image rights to that Italian clinic.
