Why a player we didn't sign is used to make a point I don't know?

Because as per the OP, Wilson was moaning that STFC was struggling for money when he was here. How on earth can he make such a claim when he was given 300k to spend on a single player?

Whether the player signed or not is irrelevant, he was still given that money to spend.

Because in the interview Wilson said he was not given money to strengthen the team, which is obviously a lie.
is it?  Where was this 300k spent?

Oh come on.

He was given 300k to spend on Joe Mason. A bid was made and accepted. The player didn't want the move.

Wilson had 300k to spend on a new striker that is an irrefutable fact. How can he then say the club was struggling for money?

Lilian Nalis, Mark Marshall and Yinka Casal were signed by Maurice Malpas

Cuthburt and Ferry both joined for an undisclosed fee

Alan O'Brien - Left when Paul Hart was Manager

But your right Flint was a great buy for 100K

Taken from an Interview with JW just after he stepped down as chairman

Quote
Wray used a recent failure to secure promotion to the Championship as an example of how inaction has major consequence.

“In truth when you go back to the year we went to the play-offs, did we make mistakes in the run-up to the play-off final? Yes,” he said.

“We should have strengthened the squad by two or three players in January. I remember Danny (Wilson) saying ‘we don’t need to bring anyone in, we’ve got a great nucleus here and I don’t want to upset the balance of the team by bringing in two or three extra team’.

“Really, from a managerial point of view, that’s not wanting to have the awkward situation of juggling extra people when only 11 people can play in the team.

Don't think we'll ever find a quote in he future like this from Paolo,  " we don't need to bring anyone in, we've got a great nucleus here "

Compare outgoings to income. Let's see some hard facts in that regard. Rumoured bids that never materialised  don't appear  on balance sheets cannot count in  calculations surely. Wilson will be basing his view on what was available.

How do we know the board would have given him 300k for every player he wanted? If they didn't think re-sale value was as high as masons, they wouldn't have been as likely to. Especially the way Fitton wanted us to be self sufficient

We don't Dave. But I'm sure Mason could not have been the only player rated at that amount.

I remember a discussion before actually about how only Benyon was identified as a target. If the money was available (which it was), why didn't they have another suitable target to spend it on?

Go back through the thread sunshine.

I opened this thread and had other's jumping on my back. All I've done is produce hard facts to support that Wilson is indeed a lying cunt. People don't seem to like bad things being said about their precious Danny, he isn't even here anymore for crying out loud.

Why are people being so defensive about Wilson?

OK I'll take your point, though to be fair I think what he said was "Swindon was struggling for money", which wasn't necessarily a lie. The club was still spending quite a bit in clearing debt and conducting legal cases, which hampered what might otherwise have been made available for players or development, and shows how much we're benefitting now from that surgery. I'll agree he certainly spent enough to have a competitive squad that year.

I suppose I'm only being a bit defensive about your virulence because I think Wilson was a decent bloke who was extremely badly let down by his players. He was weak in a crisis, but I can't bring myself to resent him as much as you do.

I don't resent Wilson, just passing comment on an observation. I'm surprised at the vehement defence of him.

WTF? Wilson was given money to spend and HE didnt spend it, so the money way there??? I personally never rated Wilson anyway he was a bad motivator and poor tactitian and he always had excuses like Paolo as its the managers arsenal, as for players sold its hardly 4 mill when he sold austin for 1.2m Cox for 1.5m Morrison for 80k Greer for 200k and the 2 lads from the yoofs in Stephens and Henshall for about 100k between them.
