The King James Version was the first translation of the original bible in to English, unsurprisingly it was King James I who authorised it in the 17th century some time after the first translated copy of The New Testament. You can't go too far wrong with the KJV. Might be worth pointing out that the original KJB uses lots of old words such as thee, thou etc. If you want something a bit more up to date then try the New King James Version. Either one is just a translated version of the original holy bible.

I can't believe that he wants to be christerned, it was his choice not his parents, my brother is like me hates religion. My nephew is only 10 & he has given up tennis lessons & playing football for bible lessons, the area of London he lives in your more likely to find a mosque than a church.

Pretty big decision for any 10yr old really, perhaps his school curriculum, given the area he is in puts quite a lot of emphasis in to the koran and has his own curiosities with religion. Shame he has dropped football though

KJV is a tough read with all the thee thy thou thum. If he's 10 he'd probably have a hard time. If you want something easier to read, New International Version and English Standard Version  are good imo.

I once had a strange aunt that would buy me the boy's bible every year for Christmas. Without fail.

Fuck knows what that was all about. Not only was I never into that nonsense, she must have also forgotten she bought me one the year before. Why would anybody need so many?

Get the lad a Gideon's bible because when he comes around the paper is perfect for skinning up with.

Then cross out commandment #8

Talking of the 10 commandments, some mildly interesting comparisons between the language used in the bible versions here:

Is there a problem with buying a new version, if at bible school they go through and study the text?
