I've always maintained a good, successful season in a league below beats the pants off middle-for-diddle mediocrity in a league above.

Last season for us being a good example.

Villa could do with being relegated, a successful season in the Championship will at least give the fans the buzz again and could well be a springboard for a more competitive team when back in the PL

Fuck me, what a day. Caught the train from Pads at quarter past 2 (so luckily avoided any idiots throwing themselves onto the tracks), but only just, having to deal with some eejit pushing the emergency stop on the DLR between Poplar and Canary Wharf stations, and us not being allowed off until they got the train moving 20 mins later (for those not familliar, it's about 30 yards away).

Pre-match saw Ritchie parked up with his girlfriend looking at a map at the edge of old town. You'd think he'd know where he's going by now! Villa fans all seemed pretty pleasant, had a nice chat with a bunch of lads who were looking for a pub.

First half, in fact for the whole game, Devera was massively out of his depth and might as well not have been on the pitch. Gabby and Ireland did all Villa's work for them really, two major threats. Bit cunty to celebrate twice in front of our fans too- once I can understand, but the second time was taking the piss. Unlucky not to have the scramble go in, but half time came around and I was still confident we could pull our arses out the fire. Americans were a bit disappointed I think but still enjoying themselves.

Second half was tense, and the introduction of De Vita and Storey (obviously) changed the game. Roberts just didn't have the finishing touch down the left, and I was hoping Di Canio would bring De Vita on for him (not Ritchie, as the fourth official thought originally...).  First goal went in and we were ecstatic, second goal the place fucking erupted (Yanks and all). Unfortunately the wish that we could hold on for Extra time didn't come true, but then when you make Premiership teams scramble substitutes you have to be proud of yourselves. Wes pulled off a cracking save before they pulled it back to prolong the inveitable, but apart from that, and a fingertip save in the first half, he couldn't do much other than pick the ball up out of his net.

Perhaps what most interested me most (haven't seen the boys play a lot this year) is the way Ritchie and Ferry were comfortable switching places regularly. I think putting Alan Mac or Nathan Thompson on the Right and Troy in the Centre with Flint is probably our best option right now. Alan Mac did one of his mazy runs right through Villa's midfield again come to think of it, just needed to shoot unfortunately.

Second goal is one of the best worked Town goals I've seen.

Super proud, very hoarse, and we were so SO close. Unlike Reading however, we can't blame ourselves... Paolo will just win the FA cup to make up for it.

Mine was doing that from the start of the season, took it back into the ticket office on the advice of the turnstile bloke and have had it reprinted.  Took about a month to get it back and was sent paper tickets in the meantime, but have had no problems since.

Cheers will have to take it in when i get a chance. Id rather be using paper tickets at the moment.

It was.  And yes...I failed.  Sorry.   Embarrassed

There was one of them banging on about it being 'the best game since Milan' all the way to Farnborough.  I was spent, and just nodded politely.

You're forgiven Ardiles. You didn't look that pompous in real life either.

One of my favourite moments was as the fourth official held up the board for Storey to come on, my dad saying,

"He's alright in the league but is he really going to change the game here?"

Yes, yes he did.

I don't understand all this "Everyman is my brother" trash.
I don't care about other players and I really dont' care about other clubs. How I long for the old days when I was met with open hostility or at best disdain when following the Town.
I don't know what's happened to Petrov and as long as he isn't dieing I'm not at all concerened.
