I did see most of the first Emmanuelle film (once I'd realised that nobody in Paint your Wagon was going to get their kit off and I was in the wrong studio) and Emmanuelle epitomised a certain new arty, stylish softcore.

Censorship was still with us and a vaginal smoking portrayal was I believe cut - as it would still probably be today but on account of the smoking aspect.
