I'm sure he's a nice enough fella but I mean really, what is the point in this Pro Contract thing?

I'm sure it'd be lovely to unearth a Charlie Austin or the like but Paolo must have been thinking, "have I really got to pick a winner?"

Doubt it.  I think Samsung pay his wages for the 1st year as part of the sponsorship.
