I got a text message yesterday saying I was entitled to over £2500.00 through this PPI malarky.

I ignored and deleted the text but how would they know?

Wondering if other have received texts/phone calls about this?

There's also a scam going about with companies saying your house has been put in the wrong band and they can get the overpayment refunded for you.

All for an upfront fee, of course!!!

thats the worse thing you can do.
the texts are sent out at random and if you text back even if its an insult, it gives them the info they are looking for, the fact that its a live number and they will just bombard you.

Best thing to do is ignore them.

If you had any loans claim, even if you know you didn't have any PPI they pay out if they cant prove that you didn't .I know 3 people that got 5 figure settlements.

obviously don't claim through these companies though, do it yourself

It's true that most of these are texts sent to random (harvested numbers) - I run a text marketing provider (http://www.psms.me) but absolutely refuse to sell our services to these twats and have even closed their accounts down even though they were spending over a two grand a month with us.

The only plus side is that they have to use a number to allow you to send a response text so if you text back STOP and they continue to send the text messages you can report them to ofcom (sadly fuck off isn't recognised as stop Wink).

Premium rate numbers will always be short codes and these guys are not prepared to pay the price for them so as long as its a long code number starting 44 it should only cost a standard text...

Well Its just a form to fill out that'll take a few minutes, you've got nothing to lose? think you'll find the forms on moneysavingexpert or that sort of site.

I got some money on a loan I've defaulted on and have a repayment deal set up on,only knocked off what I owe but its  800 quid less to pay back

You are one  among 500,000 that received this text - they bank on the fact that around half will have had PPI and probably less than 1% will fall for it but this still equates to 5,000 potential 'leads' that could generate over £100k in commission for them
