Hope one of you fine people can help,

Moved into my new Uni house earlier today complete with Internet,

Unpack and come to connect to the wifi, both my laptop and wifi connect to the network but then on either device when I actually Try to get onto the internet both refuses without explanation.

I've restarted everything many times and run network diagnostics on my mac.

Anyone got any ideas? I've emailed my landlady in the hope of getting the account number.

It's a "Virgin Media Superhub"

Thanks for all your help!

Unplug the modem for 30 seconds and plug it back in.

Restarted the modem a good 10 times already and that's a dead link on my iPhone Si.

So you're connecting fine to the hub, but the Internet is not working when you do so? Or are you actually then being kicked off the wireless? Have you established that the Internet is there?

Almost sounds like a problem I once had that was due to IP addresses and DHCP I think.

Both my iPhone and mac are showing connected to the network.

Neither let me go any further tried chrome and safari both just don't load a website, white screen.

Landlady should have it sorted on Monday which isn't too bad, but means I can't listen to the game tomorrow!

The lights on the superhub, is the "ready" light on?

http://help.virginmedia.com/system/selfservice.controller?CMD=VIEW_ARTICLE&ARTICLE_ID=345040&CURRENT_CMD=SEARCH&CONFIGURATION=1002&PARTITION_ID=1&USERTYPE=1&LANGUAGE=en&COUNTY=us&VM_CUSTOMER_TYPE=Cable

And have you made any changes to your Mac's IP address to connect to a previous network?

Also, what do you mean by this, "both my laptop and wifi connect to the network but then on either device," are you referring to your phone and laptop and not something that you have inbetween the hub and your computer/phone?

Have you tried creating (and using) a new location within network preferences?

I'm always having problems with free wifi networks and this always fixes it.

Never been able to figure out the root cause though.

If that doesn't work have a look in network preferences at the wifi connection and post the details - the IP, Subnet and Router IP address from the TCP/IP tab and the IP addresses from DNS tab.

All the lights are switch on the router as they should be.

I'm not using anything else just my phone and MacBook both in the default settings, no changes made.

Ifconfig says
"media: autoselect
Status: Active"

Ignore what I said about ifconfig. Get the details from network preferences instead.

But try the network location thing I suggested first.

I'm happy to remote in to have a look and try to fix it. Obviously you'd need to be able to use your iPhone as a hotspot and download a small utility first (about 15mb). You'd be able to see everything I'm doing. Got nothing else on tonight or tomorrow morning, so anytime is fine for me.

Tried the network location thing.

You're welcome to have a look, but I think it's a problem at virgin's end.

I had this problem with them before, I should be able to get the account numbers and therefore give them a call Monday, so isn't the end of the world

Post the details from network preferences (see my previous post). Might be a config issue.

Have you got access to the router? Probably on 192.168.1.1, enter that in a browser but you'll need the logon details.

Tried that, both chrome and safari wouldn't load the router page, treated it as a website.

Fucking thing.

Maybe because the admin interface is a website? You might need to put http:// in front of it.
