Town centre closed and arrest later made in Rowde
3:44pm Monday 2nd July 2012 in News By Lewis Cowen

Man hurt in suspected Devizes firearms incident Police said a man was injured in a suspected firearms incident in Devizes this afternoon.

The centre of the town was closed as firearms officers and an ambulance went to the offices of David Nolder & Co, a solicitors in the same building as Morris Goddard & Ward, St John’s Street, at about 3pm today.

A police spokesman later said that a man had been injured but would not give any further information.

Simon Fisher, deputy town clerk at Devizes Town Council, said: “Someone came into the town hall and said there’s been a shooting in Morris Goddard & Ward solicitors.

"A short time before that some of us heard a bang - it sounded like a car backfiring or a car bumping into another car.

"One of our staff saw a male being carried out on a stretcher.

"The area around the town hall is cordoned off.”

An arrest was later made in Rowde which was thought to have been in connection with the incident.

Police have cordomed off the road, including The Silk Mercer Pub.

My Missus works in the office next door.  Today is her last day before moving to the Basset office tomorrow.  Currently she seems to be stuck at the office unable to leave town.

Its a bit of a wild west town is devizes.

Although it's only a minor concern in the grand scheme of things, i'm a bit worried that I won't be able to get the bus home as a resuult of this

What bus? According to my facebook going crazy being from Devizes myself, the whole Market Place is closed to the moment.

49. I get on by B&Q, so i'm hoping it shouldn't be too bad.

Regardless, terrible whats happened. Rumour around the office is it was a disgruntled farmer, shot someone in the head with a shotgun. Fuck knows how they know that though

Just driven through. Traffic chaos. Bbc wilts reporting all roads reopened which was odd as I was sat looking at the police cordon which was still very much in place.
