Sad news, just heard that Sid died this week. Anyone who played local football in the 70's,80's and 90's will have seen and heard him.
Bit of nutter but a character all the same. RIP.

Bouncer at the Moonies many years ago!! As has been said on this thread, a local character sadly gone. He was resident at old people's home in Markham Close, Wroughton but the last I heard he was in hospital full time.

Only met him as a kid when my dad and brother played darts with him. What a character he was. I remember them both talking about him lots.

Yeah, that was Sid. Cowboy hat with a feather in it, often used to go around saying "cuckoo!" In his younger days you never even looked at Sid as he would down you and ask questions later!!! |

In a funny sort of way you could be right!! He used to do the bottling-up in the mornings and then keep an eye out for anybody who had been banned from the pub for the rest of the day/evening. In those days there used to be quite a bit of trouble there, much quieter these days - would you mix it with Pete Neal!! |

Knew him well.....on my travels i once was talking to a bloke in Taunton about old Swindon.....this guy grew up there in the fifties and sixties.....he mentioned Sid the Kid and was amazed when i told him that Sid was still knocking around.
Sadly that was last year................i have often thought about printing a book with Swindon Worthies....characters and the such.
Sid would have been in it for sure.
