Somebody called Mattyd71 is saying on TFF this...

Swindons  Player budget  for wages this year is 4m, how does that compare with rest of league,is this top end or mid table really have no idea.

Paolo Di Canio confirmed 4 million budget on offical site iplayer today.also basically confirmed Andy Williams is signing and that we need to let 5 players go in order to bring in the eight he wants.

Has anyone watched the video that was put on the site today?  This doesn't sound right to me.

An MK fan is saying that last years player budget for them was £1.5m so it sounds OTT.

Is it me or does this not sound right?

I haven't got the latest accounts to hand to check the exact figure, but a total wage bill of £4m is in the right ballpark and possibly a bit low - I'd guestimate £4.5m next season. That covers ALL wages at the club though and I'd guess our non-playing staff wages could easily be £1m. If they're pushing the boat out then maybe £4m playing staff and £1m for the rest.

That sounds wrong to me, if an average squad has 22 players then the average wage per week on £1.5m budget would be £1.3k per week. I'm sure Franchise pay more than that. £4m would be around £3.5k per week on a squad of 22 which doesn't sound too fantasy or crazy to me.

I wonder where this is coming from then if nothing was said in the video on the site?

Does anyone else think that £1.3k per week is still excessive for players in the 3rd tier of English football?

Been thinking about this recently. And my conclusion is this: anybody who supports capitalism has no right to complain about what other people get paid, as it's theoretically determined by supply and demand, and a weighing up of costs and benefits.

So if we're going to say 1.3k is too much for a League 1 footballer, then our problem is with capitalism, rather than a footballer's wage.

In theory.

Exactly, you can only pay what market forces demand. If you wish to pay everyone £1.3k, then you wish to have a team of players who aren't good enough to be paid more elsewhere.

For what it's worth, perspective wise, my mate used to be paid £450 a week in the conference. That was about 12 years ago.

I thought I read somewhere that Huddersfield's budget this year was 8 Million and Sheff Utd 10 million.  Cannot remember for the life of me where I saw it though.

The season we got relegated our wage bill was at least £3.3m. This info was given to me by a well known memeber of the management team.

I was told that we went over on our budget by £2M last season which seems a lot, but in retrospect might be about right due to the chopping and changing of PDC.

I was told pre xmas that the player budget last season was 65k per week on wages. This increased as the season went on. This i'm sure will rise accordingly. We had one player on 6k a week(Clarke) and even players like Gabilondo-Essias were on 2k a week.
Of course players like Kennedy-Bodin-Thompson were on a few hundred quid a week but we spent big last season for sure
