Bodin delays decision on new deal

BILLY Bodin will not make a final decision on whether or not to sign a new contract with Swindon Town until after his involvement with Crewe in the League Two play-off final.

If Crewe get promoted - Crewe. If Crewe don't get promoted - Swindon?

As we have offered him a contract and he is under 24 we will get a fee if he decides to go elsewhere, probably not much 50-100k I would imagine.

I'm not sure Crewe would want him if they go up.

He hasn't set the world alight there and he's been dropped to the bench recently.

The guy is focusing on Crewe. After Wembley, he'll sign somewhere and go on his holidays.

Done.

I have a hunch that both Bodins could end up at Torquay next season.

If they do, I can only see Bill staying there for one season unless Torquay manage promotion next year.  If he's not too good for League 2 yet, he will be soon.

I wouldn't begrudge Bodin a move away from here. Di Canio hasn't really given him much of a chance and he's more likely to get more games elsewhere.

True.  But PDC has shown faith in him by offering a new deal.  Billy will need to judge how many games he is likely to be getting (for example) at the end of next season, as he develops.  Unlike older players, such as Benson, he is not the finished article.  If he's going to be League 1 standardn within 12 months, dropping down to - or staying in - League 2 might not be the smartest move.

He's just focussing on the play-off final isn't he, i.e being a professional
