Why do young footballers insist on throwing their careers away. at 22, Joey barton IMO has a bright future but does silly things which throws it all in to jeopardy. First the cigar in the eye saga, then fighting in Tailand. This was on the news earlier. He (Anthony Walker) was a big church goer, and they interviewed a woman from his church and only last week he asked her "do you think they have basketball in Heaven?" Just a couple of days later and... Sick fuckers who did it should be strung up. |

The thing that winds me up is that some bloke was saying that they should only get a minimum of 15 years in line with basically 'normal' murders rather than the higher rate minimum currently used for ratcially motivated murders ( And that 30 years is reserved for mass murderers, terrorists, etc).
To me murder implies pre-meditation of taking someones life. Which should equal the end of yours by imprisonment until you die. Yes it's 'cruel', that's the point.
Of course it is never that simple. For instance if the mother of the murdered boy killed the killer, should she get life too? Did the Bulger killers know what they did was wrong*. Does killing a terminally ill person at their request make you a murderer?
* yes in my book.

The highest minimum sentance was 15 yrs for murder doubled to 30 for racially motivated murder. if ever there were candidates for the harshest possible punishment it was these guys IMHO

These guys lay in wait behind a bush with an Ice-axe.
It was a totally pre-meditated murder.
However I don't always like the racial thing attached to it - yes they were racists and used racist abuse which is bad enough.
But if they killed a white man in exactly the same way abusing him for his weight or something - would they have got less time in jail?
Still one pre-meditated murder, still one dead person, therefore you'd think same sentance?
